Vale Colt (aka BIS Aust Ch Mzalia Texas Gunfighter)

Posted By on March 30, 2010

On Monday we received the sad news from Tasmania, that our handsome old boy Colt had passed away. He would have been 11 in June

A 2005 portrait of Colt, with one of his owners Eileen.

Owned by Stan & Eileen Laycock of Eilsta Basenjis, Colt was a successful showdog in his time, being a Best in Show winner, as well as a multiple Best in Group winner.

From limited opportunities at stud he sired some very nice puppies, the stars being Tasmania’s first basenji Grand Champion – the Runner-up Best in Show  & multiple Class in Show winning Aust Grand Ch Eilsta Temple Fury, and Best in Group and multiple Class in Group winning Aust Ch Zichy Eumina Cangelca.

But most importantly of all, he was the much loved companion and friend of his owners Stan & Eileen Laycock. An extraordinary talker and boy with tons of character, every morning Colt greet them with lots of yodels, and wait impatiently for his post breakfast hugs and cuddles.

Colt will be sadly missed by everyone at Eilsta and Mzalia Basenjis.

Farewell old boy.

Vale Mlia (aka Aust Ch Kambi Ndoto Mlia)

Posted By on March 23, 2010

It was a sad day yesterday and the end of an era, as Mlia – my first basenji and the girl that started me on the path of showing and breeding – passed away from the infirmities of old age.

She would have been 16 years old in June.

My sincere thanks go to Peter Schroder for loving Mlia so much and giving her a wonderful loving home for the last 12 years.

Mlia’s line continues on through her grand-daughter Ishar (MBIS Aust Ch Mzalia Hidden Valley) and her great-grand-daughters Kye-ya (Aust Ch Katimbari Wild of Heart) and Alla (Aust Ch Katimbari Desert Rose).

Mlia’s first great-grandchildren were born in Victoria in 2009.

Wil wins his first Best of Breed

Posted By on January 24, 2010

Earlier tonight, we attended the Gawler Kennel Club Champ Show, and young Wil (aka Mzalia Comedy Club) won his first ever Best of Breed. The Judge was Mrs Di Jolly a Rhodesian Ridgeback breeder from South Australia.

Hannah (aka Mzalia Comedy Festival) won Bitch Challenge and was Runner-up Best of Breed.

It was lovely to catch up with our friends at the show, and for the kids to perform so well, as this will be our last show for about 2 months, due to my overseas trip in a couple of weeks, and then the upcoming Adelaide Fringe which goes through until mid-March.
