Farewell Red…

“Red”

I have just received the sad news that John Forbes’ wonderful old girl Red passed away today, after having a stroke overnight. She was 14 years old.

Red at the 1996 Basenji Club of Victoria Specialty

Red had a successful show career winning Runner-up Best in Show at the 1996 Basenji Club of Victoria Show under Michael Hughes-Hall of South Africa, but it was as a mother that Red has left her biggest legacy.

Her children include:

  • our very own BIS/BISS Aust Grand Ch Baagna Virst Legend
  • MBIS/RuBISS Aust Grand Ch Baagna Virst Topaz
  • MBISS Aust Ch Baagna Wotta Jackpot
  • Aust Ch Baagna Wotta Petal
  • NZ Ch Baagna Ursucha Posser

Her name is also behind many other successful basenjis in Australia and New Zealand. In the last 12 months she has also had the first of her descendants make their way to Europe as well.

The following kids in my kennel all go back to Red:

Her son…

  • Jason (BIS/BISS Aust Grand Ch Baagna Virst Legend)

Her grand children…

  • Our 2008 Tina x Jack babies

Her great-great grand kids…

  • BISS Aust Ch Mzalia Private Dancer
  • Aust Ch Mzalia Private Ryan
  • Our 2008 Magenta x Cheeky Babies

I am so glad that I got to see her one last time when in Sydney last March/April.

Farewell Red, and thank you for the lasting legacy you have left our breed.

We also send our sincere condolences to Red’s breeder/owner John Forbes.
